Diet in Cold and Cough

More often seasonal change showers us with cold and flu resulting running nose. Probably it’s just our body’s way of saying you are way to awesome and need to slow down so that everyone else can catch up. Due to common cold and influenza, we mostly lose our appetite so eating adequate nutritious food may be challenging.

OUR GUIDELINES

FLUID INTAKE:
What to drink: Juice, herbal tea, broth, ginger tea, honey and lemon tea.
What not to drink: Caffeinated drinks & Alcohol are highly dehydrating and should be avoided.

HEALTHY EATING:
  • Eat nutritious food including fruits, vegetables and protein rich foods
  • Consume food which boost the immune system
  • Consume soft foods which are easier to swallow with a sore throat.

COMMON FOOD ITEMS:
Chicken Soup /broth: The combination of healthy vegetables and chicken provides good nutrition and soothens the symptoms. Vegans can take hot tomato soup or vegetable broth to meet up their nutrition.

Citrus fruits: Red bell peppers, tomato, broccoli, guava, amla, strawberries, brussel sprouts are the good sources of Vitamin C which are to be included in the daily diet.

Honey: Flu- friendly sore throat reliever due to its antioxidant and antimicrobial properties.

Mushroom: The production of cytokines helps to fight off infections and support your immune system.

Ginger: Ginger contains chemicals called sesquiterpenes that gives relief from scratchy throat.

Vitamin E : Green leafy veg – spinach, brussel sprouts, Almonds and sunflower seeds, Broccoli, Whole grains
